How are they connected?

Ayurveda and yoga are sister sciences that evolved together and continuously influenced each other throughout history. Ayurveda is the science of healing for both body and mind. Yoga is the science of Self-realization, which depends on a well-functioning body and mind. Although both disciplines traditionally developed together, most books on yoga in the West barely mention Ayurveda. Conversely, all Ayurvedic books discuss yoga.

Ayurveda and yoga are much more than just physical healing systems or physical exercises, as we tend to view them today, however important these aspects may be.

Both Ayurveda and classical yoga consider the whole person, which encompasses not just the body but also the mind and spirit. Both address all our needs—from physical health and well-being to the development of our higher consciousness and self-awareness of who we are.
